Oh, how I would love to have a quiet afternoon,
My dogs asleep, my kids off to school.
I take a nap or read my favorite book,
The lemonade chills in the refrigerator on a hot summer afternoon.
Plans for embroidery, knitting, and crochet are set,
Hosting elegant high teas and kitty parties to keep up with the trend.
Flowery drapes and parasols are back in fashion,
Pretty bougainvillea colors flash across the location.
Soon, summery fruits adorn the trees,
Oranges and mangoes make up delicious treats.
I see the gardens hustle with a crowd,
Young mothers, toddlers, children running around.
Yet I hear no sound or scream,
Peace and quiet I feel within.
And then I wonder what’s going on,
Just to be awakened from my slumber by a whining sound.
