If only you would have asked….

If only you would have asked me then,
The world would have been a different shade of red..
The honest life, the bare surroundings,
The little we knew, would have suffice for the existing..
The role of “us”, would have been more of you and me.
You would have fought the battles
I would have helped you heal.
The meals together would have been a treat
You would have brought the bread
While I cooked the meat.
The seasons harsh, the rain, the sun
The barn, the field, the work, we would have done.
The dawns and the dusk would be just fine,
We would have lived a long-lost dream of mine.

But alas…

Life though had a different plan,
For you didn’t ask and the time went by,
You care a lot, yet you let me bleed
I lived the fate, let the battle wound heal
In our own worlds, now we dwell
The feelings, the warmth, the fondness still swell
The waves of emotions now break before they touch the shore
For battles we won, made us the loose the war
